DOS Inventory Program Version E.6 Installation Instructions

Click here for a list of frequently asked questions with our DOS program.

1.   Take the floppy disk we sent you and put it into the floppy drive. The floppy disk should have a serial number stamped on it. (These same instructions are also for the DOS file you downloaded from our products page)

2.   Log onto that floppy drive. You can do this by exiting all programs on your computer. Your computer should have an  A:\, or B:\ on the screen. If you are in Windows, exit Windows to do the install. Running the INSTALL from within Windows might give erroneous results.

3.   Type     INSTALL    C:     \INVNTORY at the DOS prompt. Type this line exactly as shown below including the spaces and use the backslash before INVNTORY.

Type:                     INSTALL     C:     \INVNTORY

 4.   After the installation is complete, you will receive the message on the screen telling you to modify 2 of your “Boot” files. This is done by using the DOS program called EDIT. You can use a mouse or your cursor keys while in EDIT. From the DOS prompt, change directories by typing CD\DOS. Now type EDIT C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT. This will bring up the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. At the top of the file (first line), add a line that says “SET CLIPPER=F99”. Now save that file by using your mouse to select “FILE” at the top of the screen and then select “SAVE”. If you do not have a mouse, press ALT F to bring up the file menu. Then using your cursor keys, select “SAVE”. The editing you just did will now be saved. Now, from the “FILE” menu, select “EXIT”.

At the DOS prompt, type EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS. When the file is on the screen, look for a line that says “FILES=XX”. (XX stands for any number). Change the XX to read 99. If you have no line that says “FILES = 99” , then add a line to say “FILES=99”.

5.   Both of the files that you just modified above are required to run our inventory program. Type them in just like they look. Don’t add or remove spaces. Now “REBOOT” your computer by turning it off, then back on. When the DOS prompt is on the screen, type CD\INVNTORY. This will take you to the directory of the files needed to run the inventory program.

    6. To start the program you need to type CORRECT at the C:\INVNTORY prompt. This will start the program. The program will create (build) some index files, then, the main menu will appear. The index files are only created the first time. If at any time while in the program, and you need help, press F1 on the keyboard. This is on-line help. If this help is not sufficient, then there is always the manual we sent you for reference. If you are still having trouble, you should check the back of the manual for troubleshooting tips before contacting technical support.
